DAKOTA -- Two members of the Chapter's Disaster Action Team responded to a single family house fire in rural Dakota on Cedarville Road late Friday night.

According to an article in The Journal-Standard, the property, 2582 E. Cedarville Road,  is owned by Sally Bardell. The fire roused more than 70 volunteers from six area departments late Friday night, Jan. 30, 2009, The Journal-Standard wrote.

Fire fighters were called after a smoke smell, and subsequent investigation of that scent turned brought out volunteers from Dakota, Freeport Rural, Cedarville, Davis, Rock City volunteer fire departments as well s tanker trucks from Orangeville.

Red Cross DAT team members were paged by emergency responders at about 11 p.m., and responded to theimmediate  needs of the family, providing $115 in emergency funds for food potentially lost in the fire.

Family members stated they would stay with friends.

To date the Red Cross has expended about $4,315 in aid since October, 2008, to families whose homes were either damaged or destroyed by fires in the three-county area of Stephenson, JoDaviess and Carroll counties.

The Red Cross is not a government agency and depends solely on donations from generous donors to continue its emergency aid.

Please donate now.
